SC 2017: Arrival instructions
SigmaCamp 2017 is just around the corner. In order to find your way to Silver Lake and, and, once you're at Sigma, to not run out of, say, socks, please read over some logistics below:
For Campers flying to/from JFK
Your arrival, check-in, and check-out will be coordinated separately. Please fill out this form ASAP so that we can coordinate flight purchases to minimize airport waiting time of all campers.
Check-in and Check-out procedures (for campers not flying in to JFK)
SC 2017 will take place at Silver Lake Camp and Conference, Sharon, CT. Camp address is Silver Lake Conference Center, 223 Low Rd, Sharon, CT 06069. Visit our directions page for suggestions on how to get there. Any carpools must be arranged with us in advance by email.
All campers are expected to arrive at SigmaCamp on Sunday, August 13, between 2:00 pm and 3:00pm and depart on Sunday, August 20th, between 10:00am and 11:00am.
Check-in begins at 2:00 pm. After checking-in, campers and their parents will be escorted to the camper’s cabin room to settle down and to look around. A snack will be provided to help everyone replentish their energy after a long journey, and to kick off Day 1 of SigmaCamp.
Last day of camp is Sunday, August 20. Checkout starts right after breakfast (10am). All campers must be picked up before 11am. In accordance to a long-lasting tradition, after 11am all remaining campers will be packed into boxes together with lab equipment and shipped away until the next year.
What to bring to SigmaCamp:
- Personal Items: Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, hairbrush/comb, shower slippers and Shower Caddy (to carry supplies).
- All students are required to bring bed sheets, pillowcases, pillows, blankets and towels (Silver Lake does not provide them).
- Appropriate clothing for 7 days. Please take into consideration that weather can change quickly. Bring a rain jacket and clothing suitable for colder/rainy weather. Also bring a pair of sneakers (for Challenge Courses, sports, etc).
- Supplies: At SigmaCamp, campers will be taking notes, doing problems, and participating in math and science tournaments. Please bring a notebook, pens and pencils, and some extra paper.
- Recreation supplies: Sun screen, swimsuit and an extra towel, sports shoes (as mentioned in 3).
- This year again, we will be holding a talent show/open mic concert, at Sigma! So, if you play an instrument and are considering participating, please bring it with you! All instruments are welcomed, be it someone’s voice, guitar, flute, bass, or theremin - we will organize a storage to keep all instruments.
- Sturdy water bottle labeled with camper’s name.
- Flashlight labeled with camper’s name.
- Hand watches
- (optional) A simple camera (not a cell phone or tablet!). We ask you not to bring valuables to camp, which includes expensive cameras.
Please be advised that according to Silver Lake policy, wearing slippers at camp is not allowed for safety reasons.
What NOT to bring to SigmaCamp
There is no cell phone coverage at the Silver Lake, so there is no need to bring a cell phone. In fact, electronic devices are not permitted at SigmaCamp and should be left with parents at check-in. Campers who come to camp with a phone or other electronic device will leave their electronics with SigmaStaff for safekeeping until the end of camp.
Please do NOT bring pocket knives, fireworks, gum, candy, food or valuables including electronic and handheld devices: cell phones, radios, mp3 players, cd players, laptops, etc.
