Day 6

The last full day of SigmaCamp 2017 is coming to an end! After our last lectures of the season (topology, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, machine learning, and quantum physics), we hosted our final grand unification Sigma tournament, all the teams competing against each other. Following closely behind the completion of the tournament, the annual scavenger hunt (dubbed simply SigmaThing) unfolded. Campers and counselors alike were sent running around looking for watermelons and cantaloupes, based on logic puzzles and clues found scattered throughout the campground.

Day 5

Sigma is still in full swing as the week draws to a close. The morning started off with several lectures, on topics such as measuring time, cosmic inflation, and mathematics of the brain, to name just a few. The last semilabs of the season finished up today, bringing our wonderful academic journey partially to a close. We had a highly interesting trivia game instead of the Sigma Tournament today, with questions about everything imaginable and answers ranging from the practical to the bizarre.

Day 4

Day 4 has come to an overwhelmingly successful close! We started off the morning with some extraordinary lectures, on topics such as Darwin's theories, special relativity, plane linkages, and Apery's constant. The day continued wonderfully; sun shining, birds chirping, semilabs buzzing! After programming robots, tying knots, and learning about the chemistry of fire (among other classes), we took turns swimming, boxing, playing chess and ping-pong, and many more fun activities!

Day 3

Day three at Sigma went wonderfully! The campers started the day off with lectures on optogenetics, the mathematics of card games, the chemistry of Jules Vernes' works, and more. As the day went on, campers dove deeper into the intricacies of their semilabs and watched a fascinating Experiment of the Day. In the evening, workshops featured meditation, Brazilian food, a look at unsolved mysteries, and, of course, more glassblowing. Finally, to round out the day, a beautiful classical music concert showed us how incredibly talented our campers and counselors are.

Day 2

Another beautiful day of Sigma has come and gone! This morning, we headed off to spectacular lectures about entropy; sports data analyses; and the world of art forgery, among others. The day of mixing pigments; controlling cockroaches; learning about viruses and cyphers and Archimedes (oh my!) was interrupted only by a cookout lunch at the shimmering lake.

Day 1

The first full day of SigmaCamp went spectacularly well. First, we had several very interesting lectures, including ones on the Mandelbrot fractal; how we perceive galaxies and stars; and the science behind nanobots, among others. Afterwards, we had our first semilabs, full of chemistry, biology, robotics, and many more. The sky began to darken and we started our workshops.

Day 0: Arrival Day

Today was an incredibly successful first day at SigmaCamp! We all had an extraordinary time going around to fun games and exercises at several different stations set up around camp; games such as charades, creating and untying a human knot, balancing the whole team on one chair, and many more. We then had the most interesting Opening Ceremony ever, complete with prizes, an incredible lecture about the upcoming CRISPR-Cas9 revolution by our very own Mark Lukin, and the traditional release of the SigmaSpirit!
