Since 2012, SigmaCamp, as a nonprofit organization, has been governed by a Board of Directors. The Board provides oversight and guidance to help ensure the organization’s long-term stability and continued success. Its responsibilities include safeguarding SigmaCamp’s financial well-being, supporting strategic planning, and helping shape the organization’s future direction. Board members work closely with SigmaCamp’s leadership to strengthen its programs and ensure that the organization continues to serve its community effectively.

Yuri Salkinder, President

Yuri’s career has spanned academia, telecommunications, and financial technology. He began his career conducting research in human-computer interaction, before moving on to help create software development tools for Voice response systems. He also participated in the development of several wireless messaging standards. Nowadays, Yuri works with technology that fuels financial markets. Outside of work, Yuri enjoys art, music, movies, and challenging math puzzles. He has been a member of the SigmaCamp community since 2013.

Lilianne R. Mujica-Parodi, Secretary

Lilianne is a computational neuroscientist who builds mechanistic, multi-scale models of the brain to advance the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders. Her research applies and extends control theory to the allostatic regulation of neural circuits and their interactions with the body's metabolic and physiological systems.

She is the Director of the Laboratory for Computational Neurodiagnostics, Baszucki Endowed Chair of Metabolic Neuroscience, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University, where she is also faculty in the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology. She is additionally a Neuroscientist in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School (Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging), a Research Affiliate at MIT (Picower Institute, CSAIL), and External Faculty at the Santa Fe Institute.

Anar Amgalan, Treasurer

Anar is a neuroscientist. His background in physics and mathematics helps him solve computational problems arising in the human brain at scales from a single neuron to the entire brain network. He also tries to predict what will happen to our brains as we age.

Professor at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, Stony Brook University

Zohar Komargodski, Member

Zohar is a Professor at Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, Stony Brook University, NY. He studied at the Weizmann Institute in Israel, where he received his PhD in 2008. Later he joined the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. In 2011 Zohar returned to the Weizmann Institute, and in 2017 joined the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics. His research is on Quantum Field Theory, which has applications on a wide variety of fields in physics, including Particle Physics and Condensed Matter Physics.

Adam D. Smith, Member

Adam is a professor of computer science at Boston University. From 2007 to 2017, he served on the faculty of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Penn State. His research interests lie in data privacy and cryptography, and their connections to machine learning, statistics, information theory, and quantum computing. He obtained his Ph.D. from MIT in 2004 and has held postdoc and visiting positions at the Weizmann Institute of Science, UCLA, Boston University, and Harvard. His work received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2009; a Theory of Cryptography Test of Time award in 2016; the Eurocrypt 2019 Test of Time award; the 2017 Gödel Prize; and the 2021 Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award. He is a Fellow of the ACM.

Elena Yakubovskaya, Executive Director

Lena is a molecular biologist. The primary subject of her interest is protein-DNA interactions, and Lena has studied many of them using such state-of-the-art techniques as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and various spectroscopic methods. However, during her work, Lena came to the conclusion that even the most sophisticated device does not make you smarter: despite stunning technological progress, humans’ own brains are still their most powerful tool. The thing Lena likes the most is the company of intellectually like-minded people. Lena and her friends got together every summer to talk about science, art, and music. Then they realized that their group would be incomplete without a young generation, so they invited motivated and talented kids to join their company, which they called Sigma. We are inviting you to become a part of our community!

Strategic Business Analyst at Qlik

Iris Brook, SigmaCamp Director

Iris is a Strategic Business Analyst at Qlik, a technology company. She earned her MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. She is interested in data science and in the business side of the tech industry, particularly in finding ways to make product development and production more efficient. Iris is also highly involved in STEM tutoring for girls and in how to better encourage more women to pursue their STEM careers. Outside of academics and work, she enjoys music, dance, art, and baking. She is excited to help make the SigmaCamp week unforgettable for all our campers!

Konstantin Reverdatto, SigmaWest Director

Konstantin graduated from Purdue University, where he studied Electrical and Computer Engineering. Since then, he has spent over 20 years in the technology industry helping to build CPUs and SoCs used in a multitude of computing devices worldwide. A former Sigma parent, Konstantin will help lead our expansion to the West Coast as the Director of SigmaWest.
