Have you ever considered whether it’s possible to shrink an entire research laboratory onto a chip the size of your palm? Welcome to the world of microfluidics, where we do just that! In this immersive Semilab, open to all levels of students, we'll delve into the exciting realm of microfluidics, where tiny channels and chambers enable us to manipulate fluids to miniaturize experiments. From mastering the fundamentals of silicone mold casting to exploring microfluidic devices like Tesla valves and cell sorters, you will design and make many different kinds of “circuits”. Through simulations and fabrication experiments, we will gain insights into fluid dynamics within microchannels and explore state-of-the-art techniques like electrowetting. We will also glimpse into future innovations like solid-state microfluidic gates, microfluidic computing, and robotics. You will leave with your own miniature laboratory, ready to shrink your favorite kind of experiment!
