Welcome to SigmaWest!
Today, the staff made final preparations to welcome campers to Pine Summit. Campers gave a gleeful goodbye to their families and electronics as they entered the beautiful Pine Summit camp. Check-in went smoothly, and everyone had a nice breath of fresh air as they met their counselors, various faculty, and administrators.
After everyone acclimated, we began our Quest activities. These activities introduce semilab instructors, lecturers, and the campus to the campers, as well as building team morale and familiarizing themselves. Afterwards, we took our beautiful group picture, and everyone was awarded with dinner. Finally, we held our infamous Opening Ceremony, with a World Cup theme this year. During this session, we introduced our faculty team, explained our yellow and red card system of rules, and welcomed our Ballon d'Or (Opening Lecturer), Sasha Abanov, who gave an insightful lecture on the accidental successes of past scientific experiments. We continued outside to open the Sigma Spirit using a flask previously closed during last year's East Coast SigmaCamp.
Finally, counselors held team time and cabin time, wished their campers a good night, and all campers dreamt about their upcoming week and exciting semilabs, workshops, and evening clubs!
