This semilab explores the deep mathematical principles underlying a variety of classic and modern magic tricks. Based on the book Mathemagics: A Magical Journey through Advanced Mathematics, these activities are designed for high-achieving high school students with a strong interest in mathematics and its applications beyond the classroom. Through a rigorous yet engaging exploration of topics such as number theory, combinatorics, modular arithmetic, probability, algorithms of data transmission, and more, students will analyze the mathematical structures that make certain magic effects possible. Each topic will be illustrated through carefully selected magic tricks that demonstrate mathematical concepts in action. Participants will not only study the mathematics behind these tricks but also develop their own mathematically based performances, enhancing their understanding of abstract mathematical reasoning in an applied context. By bridging theoretical mathematics with creative performance, this semilab offers an opportunity to explore the discipline’s depth and elegance in an innovative and intellectually stimulating way.
