At SigmaCamp Next, we offer an intensive interdisciplinary scientific program covering advanced math, science (biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science), and engineering (microprocessors, robotics, etc).
The core of our academic program are Semilabs, where theoretical (Seminar) and practical (Lab) parts are combined into two 1.5-hour sessions every day. Each semilab course runs for five out of seven days of our camp. Part of the application to SigmaCamp Next is the Entrance Exam (EE), in which you will solve problems created by the semilab instructors. The EE will then be used to both accept you to the program and match you to a semilab. Each student will attend one semilab during the program.
At SigmaCamp Next, we are digging deeper into Lectures! Instead of choosing every day between different lectures, as we do at SigmaCamp, you will be able to attend two mini-courses of 3 lectures given by specialists in different areas of math and science. If you are more interested in the introduction to the different disciplines, you can attend the Renaissance course, which consists of 6 lectures from 6 different disciplines. We encourage you to attend lectures from various disciplines – it might surprise you how tightly interconnected math, physics, chemistry, and biology are!
The Sigma Tournament is a team problem-solving tournament that features problems from Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Linguistics, and Engineering. At SigmaCamp Next, the tournament will be somewhat different from that at SigmaCamp: stay tuned for more updates!
In the evening, Workshop Spaces by academic discipline will enable students at SigmaCamp Next to share the direction of extracurricular academic inquiry in the program. These will be short courses taught by the non-instructor staff. We are excited about this new exploratory workshop format.
It's a chance for every camper to share their passion with other campers through a short, TED talk-like presentation on any topic that fascinates them! We are asking all campers to prepare a talk as this will be a camp-wide activity. You will prepare a 5-7-minute presentation before camp. Then, you will present your TED talk to other campers and counselors at camp!
