SigmaCamp Next 2025: TEDxSigma

What is TEDxSigma?

It's a chance for every camper to share their passion with other campers through a short, TED talk-like presentation on any topic that fascinates them! We are asking all campers to prepare a talk as this will be a camp-wide activity.

You will prepare a 5-7-minute presentation before camp. Then, you will present your TED talk to other campers and counselors at camp!

You may prepare a PowerPoint to accompany your talk, use a whiteboard, or just talk to the audience. If you would like to use a PowerPoint, it must be submitted with your talk topic.

Choosing a topic

What topic would you like to explore, and why does it fascinate you? The possibilities are endless! Perhaps you've done a science project at school that you're bursting to share? Maybe you've been obsessed with surfing since childhood, even though you've never actually stood on a board? Did you binge-watch a dozen films and can't wait to discuss your insights? Have you noticed a funny pattern in how your cat meows and want to present your findings? Are you the quickest in your neighborhood at calculating cube roots of large numbers in your head and want to reveal your secret technique? Whatever it is, we want to hear about it!

Remember, the most engaging talks often come from unexpected places. Your unique experiences and interests are what make this showcase truly special. So don't hold back – let your passion shine through! We can't wait to see what incredible ideas you'll bring to our first-ever TED conference. The stage is yours – seize it!

How to prepare a stellar TED talk

  1. Choose a topic you're genuinely passionate about.
  2. Use multiple sources for your research (yes, Wikipedia is okay, but don't stop there!).
  3. Include some analysis, comparisons, or your own unique perspective.
  4. Prepare visuals, jokes, or fun facts to keep your audience engaged.
  5. Practice your presentation, but remember – your enthusiasm is the best tool!

Remember, your talk should be more than just a description. We want to see your analysis, comparisons, and unique insights. And don't worry if your topic seems niche!

Each of you has something valuable to share. This is your chance to shine, teach others, and maybe discover hidden talents! Your talk might inspire a fellow camper or reveal your new interest. It's also a great way to connect with others - your unique topic could spark friendships and conversations throughout camp. Everyone has a special perspective – we're excited to see yours.

Deadline to submit your talk is August 1!
