POM Contest Rules:

  • There are two levels of participation: grade 8 and younger and grades 9-10. While problems will be same for all students, each group will compete independently and have its own winners.
  • You can join the competition at any time.
  • While solving the problems, you may consult the web, books and other published literature, and may receive help from other people who are not participating in the contest. We ask you to clearly indicate any help you received or sources you consulted in your solutions. You are not allowed to collaborate with other participants (this includes your siblings!).
  • The objective of POM is not to get the most points but instead to learn and get excited about STEM. Therefore, your submission must be written entirely by you, and in your own words. If your submission includes any diagrams, they must be drawn by you (computer software is allowed) and cannot be copied from the Internet. The use of any generative AI (ChatGPT, Claude, DALL-E, Gemini, etc.) is forbidden.
  • You may submit solutions to any number of problems (you can submit more than one problem from the same subject), but only six top scores each month will count towards your total score in the POM Competition.
  • Problems will be posted on the 15th day of each month. We expect your solutions by the 10th day of the next month. Solutions must be uploaded through the website; solutions won't be accepted by email.
  • On the 11th day of the next month, we will be posting hints for some of the problems. We will continue accepting solutions until 14th day of the month; however, solutions posted between days 10 and 14 will only receive 60% of the score. Several days after submissions close, we will release the official solutions for the problems.
  • All submitted solutions will be graded; you will be able to see your score and graders' comments in your account. If you disagree with the graders' decisions you can submit an appeal and your solution with get a second round of consideration.

If you have any questions, you can contact the POM Committee by emailing pom@sigmacamp.org
